"China is the world's second-largest economy and the axis of the global demand for goods. That's why the expo is of enormous importance -- the further opening-up of China's economy," said Castro.

"CIIE serves as the platform for international procurement, investment promotion, cultural exchange, and opening-up and cooperation," said Wang Bingnan, vice-minister of commerce and director of the CIIE Bureau, while addressing the ceremony. "Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, to successfully host the third CIIE shows China's crucial role and responsibility in restoring the global economy," he added.

"China is an absolutely critical market for us, and we are really excited about recent development of our business in China," said Michael Kerr, the company's vicepresident.

"China and Central and Eastern European countries play complementary roles to each other with massive potential for cooperation in the clean energy sector, including renewable energy power generation, smart grid technology, advanced nuclear power technology, clean use of fossil fuel and smart energy," he said.

"China has always firmly defended the multilateral system. Its trade and economic ties with partners of both developed economies and developing countries has proved that multilateral negotiation mechanism is effective, and it has boosted the world's economic growth."
